How it all began

The Barnes Community Players started life in 1989 on a rather adhoc basis. It was the brainchild of Creina Foy. The group did one play per year: a pantomime at Christmas, until 2001, when we did “Cavalcade”.

After a few years, a Passion play was added to the repertoire, written by Raymond Chapman and performed as a touring show, taken from church to church.

In 2000, to commemorate the Millennium, a Son et Lumiere was staged in St Mary's church, with the narrative recorded in the Olympic Studios.

The Charity Players were  formally constituted in 2001, with a constitution and an elected committee. This is still the case.

In 2013 the company was incorporated and changed its name to the Barnes Community Players. 

An important part of our mission is to donate funds to charity. Since 2000 we’ve contributed over £50,000 to local charities (almost £60,000!), including schools and community centres.

We currently stage three to four shows each year, two at Kitson Hall and one or two at the OSO Arts Centre. We also organise workshops and theatre outings, parties and events.
